Luggage & Travel Bag Repair.
REQUEST AN ESTIMATE
A broken zipper, missing wheel or stuck handle can leave you without usable luggage just before a trip. You need to know whether you can get it repaired, whether it's worth keeping and what to do before departure. Leave the damage unchecked, and you may end up dragging a suitcase through the airport or buying replacement luggage you hadn't planned on.
That's a needless loss when a well-made bag still has years of travel left in it. At Margaret's Cleaners, we offer luggage repair for hard-shell suitcases, soft-sided bags and travel bags, with straightforward advice about your options. Call (858) 454-2375 with your travel date, or contact us to discuss the damage, arrange an assessment and ask about availability before your next trip.
Is your suitcase broken right when you need it most?
If a separating zipper, snapped wheel or cracked carry handle has made your bag difficult to use, we can assess it. We check the damaged part and surrounding structure so you can make a practical repair-or-replace decision.
What luggage repairs do we handle?
We assess and repair zippers, wheels, handles, shells, fabric, locks and linings on carry-ons, checked suitcases, duffels, garment bags and backpacks. Your options depend on the damage, surrounding material and suitable parts.
Zipper repair and replacement
When your zipper separates, snags or loses a pull, we check what needs attention. The fix may be a new slider, work on the zipper tape or a full zipper replacement.
Wheel repair and replacement
If your wheels wobble, stick or go missing, we inspect the wheel, housing and attachments. Then we recommend repairing the wheel, replacing it or reinforcing the mounting area.
Telescoping and carry handle repair
We assess jammed telescoping handles, handles that won't lock and carry handles that crack or loosen. Before recommending repair or replacement, we check the mechanism and mounting points.
Shell cracks, dents, and fabric tears
We assess shell and frame damage to see what's repairable. For fabric tears, we use suitable stitching, patching and reinforcement where the material can support the work.
Lock and latch repair
If your bag won't close securely, we check for misalignment, impact damage and worn parts. We inspect locks, latches and attachments before recommending adjustment, repair or replacement where suitable.
Interior lining repair and reinforcement
When lining tears or pockets and seams come loose, your belongings can catch against exposed surfaces. We assess the fabric, repair accessible damage and reinforce suitable areas for continued use.
How do we repair hard-shell vs. soft-sided luggage?
We match the repair to your bag's material because rigid shells and flexible fabrics respond differently to damage. You'll hear what we can do for both function and finished appearance.
Hard-shell suitcases: Polycarbonate, ABS and aluminum
For hard-shell luggage repair, we check cracks, dents, frames and attachment points. Polycarbonate, ABS and aluminum behave differently, so we inspect your bag's material before recommending work.
We pay particular attention to cracks near wheel mounts or hinges because those areas carry stress. And we're clear about limits: restoring function doesn't necessarily remove every visible mark.
Soft-sided bags: Nylon, polyester, canvas and leather
For soft-sided luggage repair, we often work on stitching, patching, binding, seams or zipper tape. First, we check whether the surrounding material can support the repair.
A tear in nylon may need reinforcement beyond the opening itself. With leather and canvas, we use material-appropriate treatment and discuss visible stitching or patches rather than promise an invisible result.
Can we repair premium and designer luggage brands?
We repair premium and designer luggage and assess each bag individually. We assess your bag's construction, material and damage before recommending repair options.
For designer luggage repair, we consider trim, lining and hardware attachments alongside function. You'll know what we can reasonably preserve and where replacement components may change the appearance.
Check any manufacturer warranty before arranging independent repair. We can assess alternatives when your coverage has expired, excludes the damage or the manufacturer's process doesn't fit your travel plans.
Is it worth repairing your luggage or should you buy new?
Repair often makes sense when your shell or frame is sound and the problem is limited to a zipper, wheel, handle or lock. One failed part doesn't mean you need a new suitcase.
We check the supporting structure, too. Your replacement wheel needs a secure mounting area; your new zipper needs sound surrounding fabric. If those structures remain dependable, your quality luggage may be worth keeping.
We may recommend replacement if your frame is badly broken or several major components have failed. Luggage repair cost depends on the work and parts required.
What should you do if an airline damaged your bag?
Report the damage to the airline promptly and keep your boarding pass and baggage tag. Because reporting deadlines vary, ask about the applicable process rather than waiting until after your trip.
Photograph your whole suitcase and take close-ups of damaged areas. Before you arrange repairs, ask the airline what documentation it requires.
We can assess damage and explain repair options, but we don't manage airline baggage claims. Keep your claim-related communication with the airline.
What happens when you bring us your luggage?
We inspect the damage, ask about your travel needs and explain your repair options.
- Contact us with a description of your bag, what broke and your departure date.
- Let us inspect the damaged part and surrounding structure, then discuss the repair and quote.
- We complete the agreed repair based on your bag's condition and the right parts.
- Collect your luggage and test its zippers, wheels and handles before you pack.
How can you keep your luggage travel-ready longer?
You can reduce avoidable strain with careful packing, handling and regular checks.
- Avoid overstuffing your bag. Pressure against the closure strains zippers and seams.
- Use carry handles for lifting. Never lift your loaded suitcase by its telescoping pull handle.
- Clear wheel debris. Remove hair, grit and material that interferes with rolling.
- Store your bag empty and dry. Remove belongings before putting it away.
- Inspect before departure. Test your zippers, wheels and handles a few days before travel.
If something sticks, wobbles or separates, ask us about repair before it disrupts your plans.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth repairing a broken luggage zipper instead of buying a new suitcase?
You'll often spend less on repair when the rest of your bag is sound. Your cost depends on whether we can replace the slider or need to replace the full zipper. We also check the surrounding fabric.
Can you repair luggage wheels and handles?
Yes, we repair or replace wheels, wheel housings and telescoping, top and side handles where your bag's condition allows. We inspect attachment points as well as the damaged part. Timing depends on the parts and bag, so call about availability for your travel date.
Do you repair all luggage brands, including Tumi and Samsonite?
We work on a wide range of brands, including Tumi and Samsonite, though we can't promise every repair. Your options depend on construction, damage and suitable parts. Check any manufacturer warranty first, then ask us about your particular bag.
My suitcase broke and I travel soon. Can you help quickly?
Describe what broke and whether your bag still closes, rolls and lifts safely. We'll discuss the next step, but we won't promise a timeframe before assessing the work.
What's the difference between repairing hard-shell and soft-sided luggage?
We address cracks, dents, frames and attachment points on hard-shell luggage; for soft-sided luggage, we often repair tears, stitching, zipper tape and seams. We choose our approach based on your bag's material and surrounding structure, then explain likely appearance and functional limits before you decide.
